I love being busy especially when it means seeing my clients take those leaps forward to take control of their spaces, their time and their lives.
However, during busy times there is always that one thing (or maybe two or three or….) that has to sit to the back burner, is put aside and remains unfinished, sometimes for a very long time.
So, I want to inspire the Outside the Box community with a UFO challenge!
A UFO is an Unfinished Object. Anything you’ve had lying about that started out to be something you were excited about but somewhere along the way you came to halt.UFO’s could be taking up precious space or perhaps it could be something that could enhance your business if you just had the time to implement it. Not to mention the feelings of disappointment and guilt every time you look at the UFO.
Take Control of those UFO’s using each of the Organise Your Life Inspirations.
SPACES
When it comes to creative pursuits some are overwhelmed with the tools and gadgets acquired in the name of art and crafts. Part of being creative is being able to see any item as a beautiful part of something creative. The same could be said of developing a business; entrepreneurs can see possibility in all objects and business building tools they are faced with. What purpose does this space have?
How do we control the urge to fill our spaces with endless possibilities and UFO’s?
- Determine the area of space you need to work in to be as effective and productive as possible. This will then allow you to decide how much space you dedicate to storing of UFO’s.
- Is the UFO going to enhance your life, your business in a dramatic way when finished? If not perhaps it’s time to move it on or give to someone else to finish.
- Do you have adequate or specific storage to help the UFO take up less space in your life? There are some amazing products out there for art and craft storage, but before you buy anything:
- be sure you measure your storage spaces
- equate the amount of things being stored – If at all unsure of what you need
- I can save you a lot of time and money through having a consultation first.
TIME
The main reason UFO’s appear is that the time to complete the object or project was not accounted for in the first place.
Here is how to get back on track:
- Determine the remaining items or tools needed to complete the project, ensure you have these before going any further.
- Schedule a time in your diary to start up the project again, allocate a set time and keep that appointment with yourself.
- Once you’ve started, evaluate how long it may take to complete your project in total. Then allocate the appropriate time blocks over the following weeks or months. You’ll start to feel the momentum when allocated regular intervals to complete the project.
LIFE
We human beings have an innate need to see things completed, to feel a sense of achievement, gratification and self worth. So why do some procrastinate? Could it be fear, anxiety of not being perfect perhaps even fear of success?
Procrastination is a normal behaviour described as an action that is counterproductive, needless, and delaying. In addition, in 2007 psychologist Piers Steel, writer of “How to Stop Putting Things Off and Start Getting Stuff Done.” describes procrastination as “to voluntarily delay an intended course of action despite expecting to be worse off for the delay.”
To get past the procrastination stage try these techniques:
- Set yourself up for success. Break a larger project into small achievable chunks, set time frames to these and work in smaller blocks of time.
- Focus on making a start. To all my clients who say“I haven’t completed all my homework”, I say “but what have you completed?” A step in the right direction is still progress.
- Create focus during your allotted project time. Turn off external interruptions like email, phone and TV. It’s amazing how when focussed we can achieve our goals more quickly and effortlessly.
Now you have some great tools to get to those UFO’s finished!
I’d love your feedback on any successes or challenges you have implementing the UFO Inspirations
