Doomsday Prepping – How to be ready for almost anything!
Now there are examples of extreme doomsday prepping on our T.V but in some ways they have the right idea. With the recent fires and floods around Australia its time to get realistic about having some plan in place for the worst case scenario. It’s also a good idea for all of us in case accident or poor health. I felt this strongly when my husband was incapacitated in a bicycle accident I had little time to deal with paperwork and emotionally didn’t want to either. My system of keeping important things at my finger tips really paid off during this time.
We don’t need to go as far as our Doomsday Preppers, but here are some essential preparations that will save you a huge amount of stress, heart ache and how to be ready for almost anything.
I’m going to call us Exigency Preppers.
How to be ready for almost anything!:
1. I can’t live without… list.
Make your list of the most important things in your home if lost would cause you the most pain. These could be photos, awards, memorabilia items, laptop, computers etc.
2. Create a launch pad.
This is especially helpful in natural disaster areas. A launch pad is an area you can designate to put all your most important things that if you had to leave quickly they are all together and ready to go.
3. Make it mobile.
You could opt to put your important information and photos in cloud based storage to help limit the amount you physically need. Some good options you may consider is Dropbox, GoogleDrive or OneDrive but check any storage limits and usage for your own needs before signing up.
Some items of important information were just never meant to be paperless so we still need to create a way to make these more accessible in emergencies. A magazine holder or box that can be easily kept in your launch pad area but is not obvious to others is a great solution for this.
4. Record to replace.
What many people don’t realize is it can become incredibly hard to make a claim with your insurer without sufficient proof of ownership. What’s worse is when you have already been suffering stress you may miss something in any claim and not be able to recover it later. Make record of all your valuables including a photo of the item while using it so there will be no doubt you owned the item.
5. Double up to be extra safe.
If you really want to ensure you are covered for any emergency, especially if it so happens you become incapable of dealing with things yourself, make a double of your important information and give it to someone you trust to take care of things if this happens. This can be especially helpful for the elderly.
If you are in a natural disaster area I would recommend your double up be someone outside your local area or even state/province.
Stay safe and enjoy the serenity of being an Exigency Prepper where you mind can be at ease knowing you are ready for almost anything.
In peace and gratitude,
Carolyn
