Know All the Types of Clutter to Create the Change You Want.

A conversation with a business leader made me want to share more on “What is Clutter”. He was asking me to speak at a business event to share some tips on how clutter affects productivity in business, great subject I thought. So I questioned him further on what he thought the audience would most like to hear about, being such a broad subject. Once I explained the different forms of clutter and how it moves into our lives, he was a little surprised by the breadth and depth of the subject matter. I was really excited by the response of the audience at the Nifnex Success Academy and how most have never thought about clutter and productivity in this way. Now I share with you, what is clutter and what everyone needs to know to move it out. Don’t despair though, knowing and identifying the types of clutter that have a hold on you will open the opportunity for change and for you to live with freedom and ultimate productivity. Organising Solutions and coaching for permanent changePhysical Clutter

Starting with the most obvious of what clutter is to us all is the things that fill our spaces in our homes, on our desk at work and any horizontal surface. Although we are used to this category of clutter it still has a significant hold on even the most organised. The biggest reason this type of clutter won’t go away easily is that it can be tied down with heavy feelings of guilt, shame, regret and unfilled promises, particularly where paperwork is concerned. Paperwork clutter is the biggest physical clutter culprits, is draining to deal with and always time consuming. Thought Clutter

The last major sector of clutter to influence your productivity. The type of thought clutter we see all the time are self-reminders, I mustn’t forget to….. , worrying about future events, the “I should be doing ….”, destination syndrome thought clutter of “when I have or become x,y or z I’ll be happy/successful”. Thought clutter has the ability to completely overrun us and take away from our productivity and the desires to reach your goals. Create awareness around thoughts that distract you. When you catch thought clutter in process and gauge how often it’s occurring you can set up strategies to counter act it. Try turning off alerts on your phone and email while working on high level thinking tasks or planning. Use notebook or app to record the random thoughts at any moment, even a bedside table notebook is very helpful, I know because I use one too.
